Guess who showed up at the HLJ booth at last weekend’s All Japan Model & Hobby Show! None other than Heisei Godzilla (and Yamato Takeru, and GUNHED, and lots of other cool stuff) SFX director Koichi Kawakita! He was at the show helping Kotobukiya promote the re-release of their 1/35 GUNHED kit, with a promo DVD made by Kawakita-san. He just happened to stop by our booth to check us out, and I was stunned to see him. He seemed stunned that I recognized him! I asked him what projects he has going on these days, and he said the Kotobukiya thing, plus a recent series of TV shows with Shinji Higuchi (Heisei Gamera, etc.) about Japanese SFX. It was great to meet and talk to him, considering that next to Eiji Tsuburaya, Kawakita-san is my favorite SFX guy over here.
